LEVELLING THE MIX

Levelling the Mix was a Sound Engineering Residency Project for women, designed to introduce participants to the world of live audio production. The project was a high impact technical residency embedded within the Lake Cullulleraine Music Festival in 2026, created to address the gender imbalance within the sound engineering industry while building the capacity of emerging Mallee creatives.

Delivered in partnership with the Lake Cullulleraine Music Festival, participants were immersed in a live festival environment. Following an intensive training residency, they moved from theory into hands-on learning by operating the festival’s second stage. Throughout the program, participants were supported and mentored by industry professionals, including a dedicated trainer and project mentor.

The project was a great success, providing women with practical skills, confidence, and real-world industry experience in live sound production. It also strengthened the partnership between Mallee Arts coLab and the Lake Cullulleraine Music Festival, creating a strong foundation for future collaborations and ongoing pathways for women in technical production.
