JUST WALTZ IN

The Just Waltz In session held recently in Mildura drew quite a crowd of musicians, dancers and those keen to step back in time through a lively exploration of waltzes and other traditional tunes from across the country. Cat Moser, a highly skilled musician and community music leader, taught the music for the Mildura and Menindee Waltzes, delving also into the history of both tunes and their composers. True to the tradition of folk music, Cat taught the tunes mostly by ear. Encouraged by Cat's gentle, inclusive leadership style, the classically trained violinists in the room were soon in sync with the fiddlers well acquainted with playing by ear, and strummers were playing confidently. Some of the group danced the waltz, adding another element of joy to the afternoon.
